Quality Assurance

How We Test the Quality of Our Laminated Glass

01

Adhesion Test (Pummel)

Tests the bond strength between glass and interlayer — rated on a 0–10 scale per EN ISO 12543

02

Boil Test (2-hour)

Submerges laminated samples in boiling water to detect delamination, bubbles, or edge defects

03

Bake Test (High Temperature)

Exposes panels to 100°C+ for extended periods to verify interlayer stability under heat

04

Impact Test (Drop Ball)

Drops a steel ball from specified heights to confirm safety glazing performance under impact

05

UV Exposure Test

Simulates long-term sunlight exposure to verify interlayer does not yellow or degrade

06

Product Knowledge

What Is Laminated Glass?

Laminated glass is a type of safety glass made by bonding two or more layers of glass together with an interlayer — typically polyvinyl butyral (PVB) or SentryGlas® Plus (SGP). The assembly is heated and pressed in an autoclave, creating a permanent bond.

When broken, the glass fragments remain adhered to the interlayer instead of falling out, preventing injury and maintaining a barrier. This makes laminated glass the mandatory choice for overhead glazing, balustrades, floor glass, and any application where post-breakage performance is critical.

Benefits of Laminated Glass

Enhanced Safety

Glass stays bonded to interlayer when broken — no falling shards

Sound Insulation

PVB interlayer dampens noise by up to 35-40 dB (acoustic PVB available)

UV Protection

Blocks up to 99% of harmful UV radiation, protecting interiors from fading

Weather Resistance

Withstands hurricanes, cyclones, and severe weather — hurricane-rated options available

Security & Anti-Theft

Multi-layer lamination resists forced entry, bullet impacts, and blast pressure

Design Versatility

Colored PVB, printed interlayers, frosted, and decorative options for creative facades

Energy Efficiency

Combined with Low-E coating to reduce solar heat gain and lower HVAC costs

Durability

Long lifespan with minimal maintenance — interlayer does not degrade under normal conditions

Common Questions

FAQs About Laminated Glass

Is laminated glass stronger than tempered glass?

Laminated glass is not necessarily stronger in terms of bending strength — tempered glass is 4-5x stronger than annealed. However, laminated glass offers superior post-breakage performance: when broken, it stays in the frame held by the interlayer, maintaining a barrier. For maximum strength and safety, use tempered laminated glass which combines both benefits.

Can laminated glass block noise?

Yes. The PVB or SGP interlayer in laminated glass acts as a sound dampener, reducing noise transmission by 35-40 dB depending on thickness and interlayer type. Acoustic PVB (such as Saflex QS) provides even higher sound reduction, making laminated glass the preferred choice for buildings in noisy urban environments.

Does laminated glass protect against UV rays?

Yes. Standard PVB interlayer blocks up to 99% of harmful UV radiation. This protects interior furnishings, flooring, and artwork from fading. It also reduces solar heat gain when combined with Low-E coated glass, contributing to energy efficiency.

Can laminated glass be customized?

Absolutely. We offer full customization including custom sizes up to 18m × 3.3m, various interlayer types (PVB, SGP, colored PVB, acoustic PVB), different glass combinations (tempered + laminated, Low-E + laminated), custom shapes, edge treatments, and surface finishes.

Where is laminated glass most commonly used?

Laminated glass is required by building codes for overhead glazing (skylights, canopies), glass balustrades, floor glass, and hurricane/cyclone zones. It is also widely used in curtain walls, shopfronts, acoustic partitions, bulletproof applications, and automotive windshields.
